Converting Sleep Apnea Machines to Emergency Ventilators for COVID-19

(Spring 2020)

BiPAP and CPAP sleep apnea machines were modified into emergency ventilators in response to the shortage of resources during the COVID-19 pandemic and the FDA’s approved extended use of respirator devices. This solution is targeted towards patients weaning off ventilators and integrates oxygen flow and filters into existing devices. I was responsible for designing an alternative oxygen input mechanism and in series air reserve. The project website can be found here.

Enlighten Educational Skateboard

(Spring 2020)

Enlighten is an interactive skateboard that teaches you how to land tricks with steez. On the app you can pick from a database of tricks from the basic ollie to the advanced tre flip to upload to your board. The deck will light up with LEDs to indicate where to place your feet and guide them as you send it. After attempting, the app will provide feedback with a digital model showing you how structured the trick was based on a comparison between real accelerometer data and an ideal model. Enlighten also connects you to the skate community, showcasing your skate progression through tricks you’ve unlocked and allowing you to upload rad tricks of your own and download them from others. Stack clips with your new bag of tricks with Enlighten!

This project was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic and only included the LED matrix and skating hardware.

Modeling and Simulation of Advanced Manufacturing Processes

(Spring 2020)

As part of my graduate mechanical engineering course, I modeled several physical processes in MATLAB and reported results using LaTex. Examples of these models include laser heating on a 3D matrix and machine learning optimization for particle-matrix H-S effective properties. Specific methods include reducing 3D environments to 2D through node labeling and a genetic algorithm with mutations.

Microbial Curing of Cement for Energy Applications

(Summer 2019)

The goal of this project was to develop a manufacturing process for a flowable, carbonate cement/concrete cured using CO2 producing microbes. I, as a post-bac researcher within a group of undergraduates, was responsible for setting experimental procedures and tasks, managing progress towards Quarter 1 milestones, and preparing presentation material for sponsors (ARPA-E, DoE) and collaborators (LLNL, U of Az).

Keramos Fraternity Presents:
Exploring Glass: Science and Art

(Spring 2019)

As president of Keramos Ceramics Fraternity I organized and facilitated a full day event for Piscataway High School honors chemistry students with the mission of engaging the next generation of materials scientists. The activities included individual take-home glass slump molding projects, a glass pouring demonstration, department and campus tours, and discussions about materials science and transitioning from life in high school to college. The students learned about glass science and material characterization fundamentals, and even got a glimpse of Dr. Richard Haber of Rutgers Universitiy’s novel additive manufacturing research. This event was conducted after I secured a grant from the Ceramics and Glass Industry Foundation.

Design and Construction of My Own Shirt

(Fall 2017)

As a personal project I designed and sewed my own shirt modeled here by a bear. I selected the fabrics and buttons to carry the motif of its creation season: fall, contrasting the rustic light brown background and wooden buttons with the indoor comforts of a darker window drape-esque accents. The sleeves are held up by detachable straps ensuring the display of the darker fabric along the arms.

Laser Cut Storage Box

(Spring 2020)

A laser cut box purposed for my arduino and rapid electronic prototyping set. The top larger top level compartment is accessed by a living hinge, while the bottom lower two are open cuts secured by a lip. Dowels act as the shelves to assist a natural sorting process where smaller items fall to the bottom compartment. They are also removable to enlarge certain compartments. The design pulls from New York City vertical over horizontal build, and from minimalist/self evident labeling of modern fashion brands.
